How yesterday's date is worked out
This page reads the current date from your device, in your own timezone, and subtracts one calendar day. The calculation is done at noon UTC internally so it never slips across a daylight-saving change, and it correctly handles the first of the month, 1 January and 29 February. When midnight passes where you are, the page moves on by a day automatically the next time it is opened or refreshed.
People most often need yesterday's date to fill in a form or timesheet, date a log, journal or expense entry, or check the deadline for something that was due "yesterday". Why can yesterday's date be different for someone in another country?
Each time zone reaches midnight at a different moment. When it is early morning in India, it is still the previous evening in the United States, so what counts as yesterday can differ by a day. The table on this page shows yesterday's date in each country we cover.
How do I write yesterday's date on a form?
