About Dates & Time in China
China spans five geographical time zones but uses a single official time — China Standard Time (UTC+8) — nationwide, with no daylight saving. Official life runs on the Gregorian calendar, but several major holidays (Spring Festival, the Dragon Boat Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival) follow the traditional Chinese lunisolar calendar, so their Gregorian dates shift every year.

China observes seven public holidays a year. Several — especially Spring Festival and National Day — are bundled into multi-day 'golden week' breaks, with nearby weekends rearranged into 'make-up workdays' to create the longer block. The State Council publishes the official annual schedule only a few months ahead, so dates for the following year are based on the lunisolar calendar until officially confirmed.
