Working out the Moon's position…
Capricorn at a glance
Capricorn starts at the December solstice and is Saturn's earth sign: ambition, structure, patience, public standing and old age. Its symbol is a sea-goat, half goat and half fish, inherited from Babylonian astronomy. The Sun entering sidereal Makara in mid-January is Makar Sankranti, the most widely shared festival in the Indian calendar — Pongal, Sankranti, Lohri, Uttarayan and Magh Bihu all fall on or around it.

Capricorn's monthly Moon cycle
Every month the Moon passes through all twelve signs, so every Capricorn meets the same rhythm: about two and a half days in each of your houses. When the Moon is in Capricorn itself it lights up your first house; when it reaches Scorpio, your 11th house of gains, comes the most helpful stretch of the month; and when it reaches Leo, your 8th house, comes the Chandrashtama days to take it easy.
