How to use the Date Difference

Enter a start date and an end date — in either order.
Tick “Include end date” if both the first and last day should count, as for a hotel stay or a leave application.
Read the gap in years, months and days, plus totals in days, weeks, hours and weekdays.

Why does “include end date” add a day?

By default the tool counts the days between the two dates, so 1 to 2 January is 1 day. Including the end date counts both calendar days, giving 2.

How are months counted?

Whole calendar months are counted first, then the leftover days — so 15 January to 20 March is 2 months and 5 days.

What counts as a weekday?
